I have been working with Winsor Newton’s Oilbars and other oil paint sticks, colored pencil, ink and various collage materials for the last 25 years after serving eight years as the Executive Director
of the Corvallis Arts Center. For many years before that I taught art in the public schools, at Linn-Benton Community College, and as an art instructor at Oregon State University. I graduated as an art major from Connecticut College for Women and had further art training at the University of Washington, University of Oregon, and Oregon State University.
Since 1970 my artwork has been in over 25 juried exhibits, 35 one or two person exhibits, and 36 invitational group exhibits, mostly in the Northwest. One of my drawings was reproduced for the 2001 OSU Art in Agriculture exhibition poster and later added to their collection. Another image was selected for the 2002 Corvallis Fall Festival poster. From April 7 to June 5, 2008 my landscapes were featured in the Oregon Governor’s office in a show I called Windows into Oregon. I also have work in the Mario Pastega House at Corvallis Good Samaritan Hospital as well as in other public and private collections.
THE MEDIUM AND SUBJECT MATTER
Oilbars are an oil stick drawing/painting medium made of linseed oil, pigment, and wax. I particularly love the strong bright colors found in this medium as well as the challenge of gaining control over it’s rough crayon-like lines. My subject matter reflects my life in the hills west of Corvallis, my family’s camping trips in the mountains and on the coast, and the landscape of our other travels. Oregon’s landscape is precious to me. My work is primarily abstracted outdoor images as seen through or slipping out of the suggestion of an inner window. Pathways are often the subject matter.
Recently I have been creating small ink and colored pencil drawings and collages created from old and new paintings.
